NITDA and UBEC form joint committee to integrate digital literacy into Nigeria’s basic education system.
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting digital literacy within Nigeria’s education system, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises education, health and social investment.
As part of this initiative, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General, NITDA, led a delegation to meet with Aisha Garba, Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The engagement builds on NITDA’s wider strategy of collaborating with key educational institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), to embed digital skills across all levels of learning.
To advance this goal, a joint committee has been established to develop and implement a roadmap for effectively integrating digital literacy into the basic education curriculum. The aim is to equip young Nigerians with essential digital competencies needed to thrive in the 21st-century digital economy.
This initiative supports the federal government’s broader mission to build a digitally inclusive society and enhance Nigeria’s human capital through strategic investment in technology-driven education.
