Proximus Global, a leading digital communications company and Aakash Educational Service, a premier EdTech and coaching provider in India, have announced the rollout of silent verification powered by the Konera API Platform. This deployment modernises student onboarding across India by verifying users directly through the mobile network. This advanced authentication method performs a background network check to remove friction, increase reliability and provide a secure experience at scale.
Silent verification eliminates reliance on SMS-based One Time Passcodes (OTPs), a process which often faces coverage limitations and delivery delays, resulting in higher drop-off rates. By authenticating identities through the mobile networks themselves, Proximus Global enables Aakash Educational Services to ensure students register quickly and confidently, regardless of device, operator or region.
Digital access plays a critical role in India’s education landscape, with online channels now responsible for 62% of student enrolments. However, the traditional use of OTPs is limited by 2–3% of these messages failing to deliver, often worsening in areas with poor network connectivity, putting remote or rural students at a disadvantage. Silent authentication bypasses this by verifying the user in the ‘backend’ of the network, without an SMS or any input from the user.
India has one of the most entrenched cultures of supplementary coaching in the world, with nearly one in three students taking private classes outside school. However, urban participation remains higher than in rural regions. Through digitisation, online learning and its scholarship programme, Aakash Educational Services is working to close this gap and democratise access to quality education for all.
