Aster DM Healthcare and GEMS Education have partnered to provide students with hands-on exposure to healthcare careers through the Aster Discover internship and leadership programme.
Aster DM Healthcare and GEMS Education have signed a MoU aimed at giving students practical experience within the healthcare sector through the Aster Discover programme.
The partnership will provide GEMS students with access to structured internships, mentorship opportunities and leadership engagement activities designed to help them explore both clinical and non-clinical career pathways in healthcare.
The collaboration forms part of GEMS Education’s strategy to expand industry-linked learning opportunities and improve career readiness among students. It also builds on an existing relationship between the two organisations, which previously focused on health and wellbeing initiatives across GEMS schools in the UAE.
Launched in 2022, the Aster Discover programme has already supported nearly 50 students through five editions. Under the new agreement, two cohorts of 20 GEMS students will take part in immersive two-week placements during school holidays in July/August and December.
“Healthcare continues to be one of the most sought-after career pathways among GEMS students, with more than a quarter of our alumni going on to pursue careers in medicine, dentistry, allied health, healthcare sciences, and related fields,” said Dino Varkey, Group Chief Executive Officer, GEMS Education.
Alisha Moopen, Managing Director & Group CEO, Aster DM Healthcare, said the initiative is designed to introduce students to the healthcare ecosystem and encourage them to explore future careers in the sector.
The programme will combine workplace placements with leadership talks, interactive Q&A sessions and mentoring opportunities from healthcare professionals.
