Florida Atlantic University’s College of Business is launching an eight-week certificate course focused on helping business professionals understand and evaluate quantum computing opportunities.
Florida Atlantic University is launching an eight-week certificate programme designed to help business and technology professionals understand the potential impact of quantum computing on enterprise strategy and investment.
The Quantum Computing: Business and Sourcing Strategy course will be delivered through the University’s Executive Education programme within its College of Business. It will examine how quantum computing is moving beyond research environments and beginning to influence business strategy, technology investment and organisational decision-making.
Participants will explore how organisations can identify potential applications for quantum computing, assess opportunities and technology providers, develop sourcing strategies and establish approaches to responsible adoption and governance.
The launch follows Florida Atlantic’s announcement that it will become the first university in Florida to host a dedicated quantum computer on-site.
Daniel Gropper, Dean, College of Business and Kaye Family Professor, Florida Atlantic University, said: “FAU’s decision to launch this course reflects a convergence of several important trends, including the growth of high-tech industries in South Florida and the university’s commitment to preparing business leaders for emerging technologies that will shape the future economy.”
The programme is aimed at business leaders, technology professionals and other decision-makers and does not require participants to have a technical background in quantum science.
“Business leaders do not need to become quantum engineers, but they do need the ability to recognise where transformative technologies may create opportunities or risks for their organisations,” said Mehran Basiratmand, Director of Innovation and Programs, Department of Information Technology and Operations Management, Florida Atlantic University.
“Through case studies, industry examples, and hands-on exposure to emerging quantum platforms, this course gives professionals the foundation to ask the right questions and make more informed technology decisions.”
During the course, participants will study quantum computing fundamentals and real-world business applications while developing strategies for incorporating emerging quantum capabilities into organisational planning.
The University said the programme is intended to give professionals the knowledge required to engage more effectively with technology teams, vendors and other stakeholders as commercial applications for quantum computing continue to develop.
