Purdue University is expanding AppsAnywhere from its College of Engineering to a university-wide deployment providing software access to approximately 60,000 students.
Purdue University is expanding its use of AppsAnywhere across its four-campus system, providing approximately 60,000 students with access to academic software through a single application delivery platform.
The system-wide deployment, which will begin with the Fall 2026 semester, follows almost five years of using AppsAnywhere within Purdue’s College of Engineering. The university will use the platform to deliver applications ranging from productivity software to resource-intensive engineering tools to students and faculty.
According to Purdue, the expansion follows the consolidation of its IT organisation and will replace multiple software delivery solutions with a single platform supporting its different colleges.
“We needed a platform that could support our most demanding applications because if it could meet those engineering and GPU-intensive requirements, it could support virtually every use case university-wide,” said Sundeep Rao, Senior Director of IT, Purdue University. “After several years of success in engineering, AppsAnywhere was the clear choice to standardise software delivery across the Purdue system.”
The university said the deployment will enable students to access specialist applications regardless of their location or device, reducing the need for students to own high-performance computers and decreasing reliance on physical computer laboratories.
During the initial College of Engineering deployment, faculty incorporated software setup into introductory laboratory sessions, allowing students to configure access to required applications early in the semester. Purdue said this approach helped minimise the number of requests made to its IT help desk.
The university’s wider deployment is intended to provide a consistent approach to software delivery across disciplines including engineering, business, agriculture and design.
“Purdue’s expansion demonstrates how institutions can replace fragmented software delivery with a single, scalable platform,” said Peter Cooke, President of AppsAnywhere and LabStats. “Simplifying software access and delivery helps IT teams reduce complexity while giving students and faculty seamless access to the applications they need.”
