Day of AI launches ‘AI trivia time’

Calling all teachers! What if building AI literacy was as easy as five questions and a few minutes of classroom conversation? Day of AI thinks it can be. The leading education nonprofit, originally launched through MIT’s RAISE (‘Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education’) initiative, has unveiled AI Trivia Time, a regular classroom game designed to turn AI literacy into a habit students enjoy and teachers can naturally fit into their day.

Think of AI Trivia Time as a brain break with a purpose. Whether used as a warm-up, an exit ticket, a mini-lesson or a fun Friday ritual, teachers and students can dive into a regular series of short, five-question, AI-themed quizzes designed to spark discussion and reflection on what responsible AI use looks like in practice. The game works across grade levels, subjects and schedules and classrooms can see how they stack up on Day of AI’s national leaderboard, with top teams recognised each month and the winners receiving a Day of AI swag bag delivered straight to their school.

“AI is becoming part of everyday instruction in classrooms nationwide. Our goal is to create something that feels less like an assignment and more like a moment students and teachers look forward to,” said Jeff Riley, Executive Director of Day of AI and former Massachusetts Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education. “Designed in the same user-friendly vein as Wordle and Immaculate Grid, AI Trivia Time meets teachers and students where they are. It’s a low-lift way to dip a toe in the water each week, with thoughtful questions that spark discussion and help students develop the habits they need to achieve deep learning and engage with AI thoughtfully and responsibly.”

Each quiz is hosted by BrAInee, Day of AI’s new mascot and resident trivia guide, who will walk students through questions that explore how Artificial Intelligence works, where it appears in everyday life and what responsible AI use looks like in practice. Every question is paired with a short explainer that reinforces key AI literacy concepts, drawing from lessons across Day of AI’s free curriculum library.

Over time, students at all levels will build a stronger understanding of where AI appears in everyday apps and tools, how data and training shape AI behaviour and why issues like bias, fairness and ethics matter. Our handy teacher-guides give advice and tips on how to use each question as a prompt for discussion and let students figure out the answers together.
