Nutanix has established a US$250,000 endowed professorship at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics to expand computer science education and teacher training across the state.
Nutanix has established the Nutanix Endowed Professorship in Computer Science at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics through a US$250,000 corporate grant.
The endowment will support computer science education and teacher training across North Carolina and is expected to be matched by state funding later this year.
The initiative aims to address shortages in computer science teaching resources, particularly in rural and underserved communities, where access to technical education remains limited despite a statewide requirement for high school students to complete a computer science course before graduation.
The professorship will support NCSSM’s teacher training programmes and open-source educational resources, with much of its impact delivered through NCSSM Connect. The outreach programme uses live video technology to provide honours and Advanced Placement computer science courses to public high schools across the state.
“The grant lifts up communities that have historically lacked access to critical STEAM disciplines and shape the next generation of digital leaders,” said Jennifer Lepird, Chief People Officer, Nutanix.
Todd Roberts, Chancellor, NCSSM, said the funding would expand access to advanced computer science education across the state.
“By tying this endowment to our open-source curriculum model, Nutanix is helping us provide students and teachers in every corner of North Carolina – especially those in under-resourced rural areas – with the training and tools they need at no cost to them.”
