University of Strasbourg partners with QPerfect to advance France’s quantum computing platform

The University of Strasbourg and QPerfect are collaborating to develop a hardware-accurate digital twin for France’s first publicly accessible neutral atom quantum computing platform.

The University of Strasbourg has entered into a research collaboration with QPerfect, a subsidiary of BTQ Technologies, to support the development of aQCess, France’s first publicly accessible neutral atom quantum computing platform.

The aQCess platform, led by researchers Shannon Whitlock and Guido Pupillo at the Centre Européen de Sciences Quantiques (CESQ), part of the University’s Institut de Science et d’Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (ISIS), is designed to provide researchers and industry with open access to advanced neutral atom quantum computing hardware. The platform is targeting more than 400 qubits.

As part of the collaboration, QPerfect will develop a hardware-accurate digital twin of the aQCess quantum processor using its MIMIQ simulation platform. The digital twin will replicate the processor at circuit level, including its native gate set, instruction set architecture, atom transport operations and experimentally characterised noise, enabling researchers to design, test and validate quantum workloads before running them on physical hardware.

The digital twin will be deployed both on-premises at CESQ and as a cloud-based service, allowing research teams and users to access a virtual version of the processor alongside the live system.

The collaboration brings together QPerfect’s simulation, compilation and error correction software with a sovereign European quantum computing initiative supported by the French National Strategy for Quantum Technologies.
